The ensemble Seyir is a production by the Labyrinth Workshop and a variation of the Labyrinth Modal Ensemble which especially emphasizes the interplay between the Turkish and Greek musical traditions. Most of the material is composed by the musicians themselves as they are all recognized and respected composers in their own right. The ensemble includes Ross Daly (lyra, tarhu) and Kelly Thoma (lyra) whose intricate work with two lyras widely considered to be one of the most exciting and innovative sounds coming out of Greece today. They are joined by three of Turkey's foremost virtuosi : Yurdal Tokcan (oud), Göksel Baktagir (kanun and Uğur İşik (cello) as well as by the remarkable Israeli percussionist of Turkish origin Zohar Fresco. Seyir takes its listeners on a unique journey which incorporates ecstatic Balkan and Cretan rhythms together with the unique melodic beauty of the Ottoman classical tradition.
